Who We Are

Established since 2018, Blue Bay Divers is a diving centre located in Blue Bay offering CMAS, SSI and PADI scuba diving as well as freediving courses from beginner to advanced levels. We are affiliated with the Mauritius Scuba Diving Association and are the only SSI dive centre in this part of the Island.

Ever since we started operating, we have been raising awareness concerning the negative impact that bad practices can have on our lagoons. We have been active with cleaning the lagoons of Blue Bay and Mahebourg both during our regular dives or during events organized by the local authorities.
 
The Dilemma

Under normal circumstances and when the tourism is thriving, there is a lot of daily boat traffic in the lagoon of Mahebourg be it for fishing, diving or snorkeling trips.

The lack of anchor/mooring points has contributed to the gradual destruction of the corals caused by anchors dropped carelessly on them.
 
The solution

The project involves:

1. The setting up of multiples anchor points in the lagoon of Mahebourg.

2. Transplanting corals from areas where they are at higher risk of being damaged from human interactions to safe areas with less boat traffic.

As we are all know, the sinking of the Wakashio has made more people become aware of the importance of our lagoon. However, the dangers to marine life have been present way before the Wakashio hits our lagoon and unfortunately will continue to exist once the wreck is gone, unless we
do something about it.

With your help, we can offer alternatives to current practices and hope for a better future where those on the surface of the ocean will care for those underneath it.

Your contribution will be used to buy the necessary equipment such as marine ropes, floats and cement to craft and set up the anchor points.

Etabli depuis 2018, Blue Bay Divers est un centre de plongée proposant des cours de plongée sous-marine et en apnée CMAS, SSI et PADI pour débutant et avancés. Nous sommes affiliés à la Mauritius Scuba Diving Association et le seul centre SSI dans cette partie de l’île.

Depuis que nous avons débuté nos activités, nous avons toujours sensibilisé nos clients à l’incidence négative que les mauvaises pratiques peuvent avoir sur nos lagons. Nous nous efforçons de nettoyer les lagons de Blue Bay et de Mahebourg lors de nos plongées quotidiennes ainsi que lors des événements organisés par les autorités locales.

Le dilemme

En temps normal et quand le tourisme est à son apogée, le trafic naval est conséquent dans le lagon de Mahebourg afin d’offrir des sorties de pêches, de plongées sous-marines ou avec masque et tuba. Le manque de points d’ancrage pour les différents bateaux a contribué à la destruction progressive des coraux par les ancres jetées avec imprudence sur les fonds marins.

La solution

Notre projet comprend :
1. Installation de nombreux points d’ancrage dans le lagon de Mahebourg

2. Transplantation des coraux qui se trouvent dans des zones à risque à cause du trafic nautique afin de les placer dans des zones plus sécurisées.

Comme nous le savons tous, le naufrage du Wakashio a permis à un grand nombre de personnes de réaliser l’importance de nos lagons pour notre région. Pourtant les dangers sont présents depuis longtemps déjà et le resteront même une fois l’épave enlevé si nous ne faisons pas davantage pour les combattre.

Avec votre aide, nous offrons des alternatives afin que les habitudes de ceux qui jouissent de la surface de l’océan soient adaptées aux besoins de la vie sous-marine pour harmoniser la cohabitation.

Votre contribution sera utilisée pour acheter le matériel nécessaire comme des cordes nautiques, bouées et du ciment pour installer des points d’ancrage.

Blue Bay Divers ist ein Tauchcenter, etabliert seit 2018, in Blue Bay welches CMAS, SSI und PADI Scuba Diving sowie Freediving Kurse für Anfänger und Fortgeschrittene anbietet. Wir gehören der Mauritius Scuba Diving Association an und sind das einzige SSI Tauchcenter in diesem Teil der Insel.

Seit wir angefangen haben hier zu arbeiten, haben wir uns immer für das Umweltbewusstsein eingesetzt und auf den negativen Einfluss gewisser schlechten Vorgehensweisen aufmerksam gemacht. Wir sind sehr aktiv in der Reinigung der Lagunen von Blue Bay und Mahebourg während unseren täglichen Tauchgängen sowie speziellen Anlässen die durch die örtlichen Behörden organisiert werden.

Das Dilemma

Unter normalen Bedingungen, wenn der Tourismus blüht, herrscht ein täglich hoher Verkehr von Booten in der Lagune von Mahebourg für alle Arten von Sportmöglichkeiten wie Angeln, Tauchen und Schnorcheln.

Das Fehlen von passenden Anlegeorten für diese Boote hat zur allmählichen Zerstörung der Korallen beigeführt durch das sorglose Auswerfen der Anker auf die Nesseltiere.

Die Lösung

Das Projekt beinhaltet :

1. Einrichtung von mehreren Ankerpunkten in der Lagune von Mahebourg

2. Umpflanzung der gefährdeten Korallen in sichere Umgebungen in welchen weniger Bootsverkehr
herrscht.

Wie wir alle wissen, sind viele Menschen durch die Strandung des Wakashio bewusster geworden wie wichtig unsere Lagunen sind. Die Gefahren für die Meeresumwelt sind jedoch schon seit langem präsent und werden es auch bleiben trotz Entfernen des Wracks, wenn wir nichts dagegen unternehmen.

Mit Ihrer Hilfe werden wir Alternativen offerieren können um das derzeitige Verhalten derjenigen an der Wasseroberfläche den Bedürfnissen der Unterwasserwelt anzupassen und somit ein harmonisches Zusammenleben einzuführen.

Ihre Spende wird dazu beitragen, dass nötige Material wie Marine-Tauwerke, Ankerbojen und Zement zur Installierung von Ankerpunkten zu kaufen.
