    PAWS is an animal welfare NGO/charity in Mauritius. We are raising funds to build new kennels and cattery for our North shelter as we are having to move to a new location.

    In existence since 1999, we have already sterilised more than 70,000 animals on the island. Every year we rescue hundreds of distressed dogs and cats in our two no-kill shelters. We also carry our sterilisation/spay campaigns in villages where owners cannot afford the cost of a sterilisation. We firmly believe that only mass sterilisation of pets/strays and education of pet owners is the solution to deal with the island's rife overpopulation of dogs and cats.

    We are having to move our North shelter from Vale to a new location in Mon Loisir. Our North clinic/shelter offers an essential service to the local community. We have cared for hundreds of sick stray dogs and cats in our veterinary clinic. Our shelter is a safe haven for abandoned puppies and kittens, mothers with litters, handicapped or old dogs and cats that have been dumped. We offer affordable veterinary care to local pet owners. We rehabilitate, treat, vaccinate, sterilise and find homes for our animals. Help us carry on the work we do.

    The new PAWS location in the North is bigger, greener and better for our animals, our hardworking staff and our customers but every move is costly. It will involve:

    • Building kennels and fencing for 60-75 adult dogs, teenagers and  puppies with access to grass
    • Building a cattery and outdoor cat patio for 20 cats with access to grass and trees for climbing
    • Building quarantine areas for accident dogs/cats, moms with new litters, or animals in urgent need of veterinary care
    • Setting up our veterinary clinic: partitions, electrical and plumbing works
    • Building an outdoor kitchen for our animals with cooking, washing up and storage areas
    • fencing the property and making it secure 

    We want to do things right because everyone deserves better. Our sanctuary animals Romero, Sophie, Bertie, Titeuf, Simba, Johnny, Huny, Willy, Hope, Trixie and so many others know only PAWS as their home. Our team spends long days helping pets get better, caring for abandoned puppies, kittens, dogs and cats. Our customers come to adopt a rescue dog/cat or bring a beloved pet for treatment.

    Everyone deserves better. So please help us in making things better for everyone. We are very grateful for your continuous suppawt and hope we can rely on you again in those difficult times.
